We are excited to offer another Highland adventure to Club members from 5 - 8 June 2026. We have had previous successful tours of the Outer Hebrides and Orkney; the former appeared in the Club magazine.
This time we will be based in the beautiful Highland town of Aviemore, which is situated in the picturesque Cairngorms National Park. The town is an outdoor mecca for skiing in winter and many other outdoor sports during the other seasons.
The main accommodation will be at the McDonald Aviemore Resort, which has ample rooms and great parking facilities. There are numerous other hotels and guest houses in the town, all with differing costs, so accommodation shouldn’t be a problem if booked well in advance. We do ask that people book directly, and we will enquire with the McDonald resort regarding a group discount. The town also boasts numerous restaurants catering for all requirements.
The start of the tour on Friday, 5 June, will be in Stirling, which is known as the gateway to the Highlands. We plan to travel through Glenshee, then through Braemar and close to Balmoral before continuing a steeper ascent passing the Lecht ski centre and onto Speyside distillery country, which is the largest production area for Malt whisky in Scotland. The roads on this route are probably the best driving roads in Scotland. Local members frequently use these roads, and we never tire of the scenery and excitement.
On Saturday, 6 June, we have planned an epic journey following many of the roads used in Top Gear’s Highland Tour, as we cut across the Highlands to the west coast. These roads are more wild but still as scenic. There are also some single-track roads, so it’s best to tackle these roads in small groups. The west coast has some stunning scenery, and we will travel over the famous Kylesku Bridge before descending through Ullapool on the loop back south again.
On Sunday, 7 June, we have planned a fabulous route through Spean Bridge, past the commando memorial, then on towards Loch Carron and the stunning mountains of Torridon. The beautiful small village of Shieldaig is worth stopping for some refreshments. The drive back through Achnasheen on some single-track roads is stunning before looping back south again.
Numbers will be limited due to the nature of the roads we will be travelling on at times. For more information about this event, please email k.marshall@lotusdriversclub.org.uk or d.wilkie@lotusdriversclub.org.uk. Once places are full, we will run a reserve list to offer places should they become available.
