This year’s Mike Stripe Memorial Event will be heading this September to the Isle of Wight. At 23 miles west to east and 13 miles north to south, the island, described as ‘Little England’, offers great driving roads with spectacular views.

The two-day event on the island is hosted by LDC members, Roger and Sandra Dunn, who are island residents and have local knowledge of what the island has to offer and where to go. The event requires a minimum stay of 2 nights so that members can be ready to start our adventure on Saturday morning.

The Saturday will see a coastal tour of the island taking in the most Northern, Western, Southern and Eastern points as well as a short climb to its highest point. Yarmouth on the west of the island will be our lunchtime destination. A short drive from Yarmouth will then take the group to the Needles. Weather and individual fitness permitting, members can take a walk up to the Needles Battery and the 1960s ‘Top Secret’ rocket testing facility. Others may wish to head down to Alum Bay to see the multi-coloured sandy cliffs. From the Needles, the group will then head back east via the breathtaking Military Road along the ‘back of the Wight’ and return to the hotel for an evening meal.

Sunday will see the group take on the ‘Wighty 90’. A picturesque route that crisscrosses the island, passing through picture postcard villages and towns such as Godshill and Ventnor and follows some superb driving roads.

For those who have never had the pleasure of one of the Club's popular Driving Adventures, we can assure you that will not be disappointed. Good roads, food and most of all good company are all assured. Route books will be provided in written form along with Google map links (provided in advance) to enable participants to enjoy each day at their own pace.
